The Ohio Donor Registry
The Ohio Donor Registry was established by the 123rd Ohio General Assembly through Senate Bill 188. The legislation was signed into law by Governor Bob Taft in December, 2000 and the Donor Registry became operational on July 1, 2002.
The Ohio Donor Registry is a statewide database of Ohioans who have indicated their wish to become a donor upon their death. The system is maintained by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and access is limited to the donation professionals at Ohio's organ, tissue and eye recovery agencies. It is not available to doctors, hospitals and EMT's. The Registry is used only at the time of death to confirm the wishes of the deceased for donation.
